Twitter Inc., the social-networking service that lets users post 140-character messages, said its website is recovering from an outage Monday and that it’s looking into what caused the disruption.
The San Francisco-based company said on its website it will update users as it learns more.
Hackers attacked Twitter, Face book Inc. and LiveJournal Inc. earlier this month by flooding the sites with requests, causing them to slow down or crash. Twitter shut down entirely Aug. 6, and users had problems sending updates the next day.
Twitter had 20.1 million U.S. users in June, according to ComScore Inc., a research firm in Res ton, Va. It ranks behind Facebook and News Corp.’s My Space in social-networking users.
