BOULDER — Junior-college transfer Andre Simmons has been cleared to participate in Colorado’s afternoon practice today, CU spokesman David Plati said.
Simmons, one of CU’s most heralded recruits in its February 2009 recruiting class, has been held out of August drills because of academic issues surrounding his transfer from Independence (Kan.) Community College.
A 6-foot-3, 210-pounder, Simmons caught 91 passes in two seasons of junior-college ball and is expected to make an immediate impact for the Buffaloes.
Coach Dan Hawkins called Simmons “the whole package” on Tuesday, referring to Simmons’ size, speed, hands and ability to gain extra yards after the catch.
