DENVER—The Colorado Rockies activated Juan Rincon from the 15-day disabled list, giving a big boost to their tired bullpen.
Rincon took the roster spot on Wednesday of outfielder Matt Murton, who was taken off the 25-man roster a day after being called up from Triple-A Colorado Springs.
Murton didn’t play Tuesday night as Carlos Gonzalez was able to bunt his way aboard despite batting with an injured right hand. Manager Jim Tracy said he expects Gonzalez to swing the bat fully on Thursday.
Rincon is 3-2 with a 6.20 ERA in 23 games for the Rockies and Tigers this season. He last pitched on July 30 at New York before being placed on the DL on Aug. 1 because of stiffness in his right elbow.
