The first homes on Schriever Air Force Base, near Colorado Springs, opened Wednesday.

The homes were developed by Tierra Vista Communities, a partnership between the U.S. Air Force and Actus Lend Lease. The residences are part of the Military Housing Privatization Initiative aimed at eliminating inadequate housing and fostering a better quality of life for U.S. service members.

When finished, the new community will have 242 energy-efficient three- and four-bedroom homes and amenities including a community center with an indoor pool.
