Ferris, the stolen 2-month-old puppy who was returned to the Humane Society of Boulder Valley on Thursday, was on hold to be adopted the minute the shelter opened today — with at least one other woman in line in case the first adoption fell through.
It didn’t. The tiny dachshund — who trainers now suspect might be a coonhound — went home with its new owner at 1:30 p.m. Ferris’ permanent owner is the same woman who brought the puppy into the shelter on Thursday after hearing the news about the missing pet.
According to police, the woman received the dog from a friend, who had received it from someone else but couldn’t keep it because she wasn’t allowed to have dogs in her home. Boulder police spokeswoman Sarah Huntley said the woman who now owns Ferris had no knowledge of the theft.
“She took him and then saw news reports yesterday and thought, ‘I wonder if this is the puppy,’ ” Huntley said. “So she brought him back, and the humane society confirmed it was Ferris.”
