DENVER—David Skaggs, executive director of the Colorado Department of Higher Education, said Friday he will resign at the end of next week.
Skaggs, a former Colorado congressman, gave no reason for stepping down.
Gov. Bill Ritter praised Skaggs for his leadership at the Colorado Department of Higher Education, which is home to the Colorado Commission on Higher Education. Ritter says he will name a replacement soon.
The department oversees 27 public institutions of higher learning, where 220,000 students are enrolled.
