BOULDER, Colo.—Two women have returned a 2-month-old dachshund puppy to a Boulder animal shelter where it was stolen two weeks ago.

Police say the women took the dog to the Humane Society of Boulder Valley on Thursday, telling shelter staffers they got it from a friend who got it from someone else.

Authorities say the puppy, named Ferris, disappeared on Aug. 12 after two men and a woman visited the shelter just before closing time but were told they were too late to see any animals.

Surveillance video showed a woman carrying Ferris.

The shelter says Ferris will be put up for adoption.
