Douglas County deputies are investigating whether a man in his 20s who died early Saturday morning was killed in a collision with a train, as reported by a missing companion, officials say.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office received a call at 11:10 p.m. Friday from a man who said his friend had just been struck by a Burlington Northern Santa Fe freight train about a half mile south of C-470 and Santa Fe Drive.

The companion of the injured man told dispatchers he did not wish to meet with authorities because there were warrants for his arrest, said Attila Denes, sheriff’s spokesman.

The injured man was discovered near the train tracks and was taken to Littleton Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:50 a.m. Saturday.

He had head injuries that may have been caused in a train collision, Denes said.

Investigators were unable to find the dead man’s companion because he called on an untraceable disposable cellphone, Denes said.
