Since launching the website “Mile High on the Cheap” in February, founders Claire Walter of Boulder and Laura Daily of Denver have developed a reputation as frugality experts.
They recently shared some of their favorite tips for living on the cheap. Among them:
• Loyalty pays. Sign up for eClubs or other loyalty programs at your favorite dining spots and cafes. Typically, these programs offer freebies just for joining, on your birthday or after a certain number of purchases.
• Give Twitter a try. You can get information on deals from a number of companies, including Frontier Airlines (@FrontierSale), Southwest (@SouthwestAir), United (@UnitedAirlines), Best Western (@TheBestWestern) and Marriott (@Marriott).
• Check the back of your grocery receipts. Many are imprinted with coupons from local businesses. The company RTUI, which produces most of those register tapes, also has an online coupon site (rtui.com) with downloadable coupons. The Denver Post
