Songs include “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,” “Shoo Shoo Baby” and “Don’t Sit Under The Apple Tree” — a few octaves lower than you are used to. Through Sept. 26. “Phantom” This is not Andrew Lloyd Webber’s behemoth — it’s a 1992 variation on Gaston Leroux’s classic story, with music by Arthur Kopit and Maury Yeston. And it more than holds its own, offering more intimacy and richness of character than Webber’s better-known Broadway spectacle. This thoughtful presentation emphasizes the real human connection between the Phantom and his student soprano, Christine. Through Nov. 8. Candlelight Dinner Playhouse, 4747 Market Place Drive, Johnstown, 970-744-3747, 1-877- 240-4242 or
“Speed-The-Plow” David Mamet’s 1998 satirical dissection of the American film industry. Mid-level Hollywood producers Bobby Gould and Charlie Fox argue the eternal debate of art vs. money: Should Gould green-light another bad action blockbuster or put himself on the line for a more spiritually uplifting work? And of course, if it’s Mamet, there has to be a secret bet over bedding the office temp. Through Sept. 21. Presented by Modern Muse at the Bug Theatre, 3654 Navajo St., 303-780-7836 or
