DELTA, Colo.—Prosecutors have formally filed three counts of sexual assault on a child against a Colorado man who was initially arrested on 468 counts.
Forty-three-year-old Jorge Arturo Montes of Delta is accused of abusing a girl between 1986, when she was 5 years old, and 1993.
The alleged victim, now an adult, told Delta police she was molested repeatedly and raped once.
Prosecutors said Wednesday they reduced the number of counts because the alleged assaults occurred before Colorado had a law citing a pattern of abuse.
Montes is being held under $500,000 bail. He hasn’t entered a plea.
His attorney criticized police and the media for publicizing the higher number of counts and asked a judge to seal the arrest warrant affidavit. The judge refused.
