NUCLA — Fire officials said a lightning-sparked blaze that has burned about 1.5 square miles in southwestern Colorado is 70 percent contained.

Fire information officer Erin Curtis said some of the crews were being sent home Thursday afternoon after getting a handle on the fire about 340 miles southwest of Denver near the town of Nucla. Curtis said two engine crews, a hand crew and a helicopter are continuing to work the fire, which at one point threatened three cabins and an outhouse.
