Opponents of a uranium- mining proposal northwest of Greeley won a narrow victory Thursday night in the town of Nunn.
The Town Board voted 4-3 in favor of a resolution opposing Powertech Uranium Corp.’s bid to mine uranium near the town.
“They barely got this done,” said Mayor Jeff Pigue of Coloradoans Against Resource Destruction, a citizens group that asked for the resolution.
“They just squeaked past.”
Pigue opposed the resolution because he thought the town should not issue an opinion for or against the project.
“It’s really nothing more than a piece of paper,” he said of the resolution.
Powertech plans to develop mineral rights on 9,615 acres it owns, using an “in-situ” method.
Governing boards in Ault, Fort Collins, Greeley, Timnath and Wellington have approved similar resolutions.
