GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—Records show a Grand Junction police officer arrested on a physical harassment charge was released on bond sooner than most inmates. Jail officials say they couldn’t safely keep him overnight.
Twenty-four-year-old Courtney Crooks was arrested Aug. 28 after allegedly grabbing his wife by the back of her neck.
Records show he was booked that afternoon and released on a personal recognizance bond less than three hours later.
The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel says inmates booked after 6 a.m. normally don’t get a bail hearing until the following day.
Mesa County Sheriff Stan Hilkey says Crooks would have be segregated from other inmates for his own safety, but the jail had no room for that.
A woman who answered Crooks’ phone Thursday said he didn’t want to speak to a reporter.
