Getting your player ready...

Not long ago, Carlos Gonzalez was the Diamondbacks’ top prospect. Two teams later, he’s starting to realize that potential because of improved strike zone discipline. Gonzalez hit the first leadoff home run of his career Saturday, his 10th overall this season. Said Arizona manager A.J. Hinch, “This is the most comfortable I have seen him at the big-league level (offensively). He’s convicted with bad intentions.”

Hot Todd.

With his first-inning RBI single, Todd Helton has hit safely in 16 of his last 18 games. Helton is on pace to finish with 89 RBIs.

Rest up.

Arizona slugger Mark Reynolds, who ranks second in the NL with 40 home runs, was given the day off. He has just two hits in his past 24 at-bats.
