Rockies reliever Matt Herges wasn’t about to let Diamondbacks center fielder Chris Young make history. Young came to the plate in the ninth inning Sunday with three homers under his belt. A fourth would have tied the major-league record for home runs in a game. But Herges walked Young, denying him the chance. “Herges said he wasn’t going to let me hit a home run off him,” Young said. “I had one good pitch to hit.”
Giambi a starter.
The Rockies gave first baseman Todd Helton the day off, so Jason Giambi made his first start for them, going 0-for-3 but drawing two walks.
Take a seat.
Diamondbacks right fielder Justin Upton thought he hit a home run to center field in the third inning, so he jogged to first base. But the ball bounced against the wall and Upton was held to a single. Arizona manager A.J. Hinch benched Upton in the bottom of the inning.
