MONTROSE, Colo.—The Montrose County commissioners have delayed a decision on a proposed uranium mill until Sept. 30.
The commissioners heard from several people Wednesday during a public hearing on plans by Toronto-based Energy Fuels Inc. to build a mill 12 miles west of Naturita (nat-yur’-EE’-tah) and about 225 miles southwest of Denver.
About 200 people attended the public hearing. The mill’s proponents say it would help the economy and opponents worry about the effects on the environment and public safety.
The county planning commission in August recommended approving the uranium mill.
