An apartment in a 16-unit building in Ft. Collins caught fire this evening but was brought under control in just over an hour with only one person receiving a minor injury.

The fire broke out in the Brookview Apartment complex on Stuart Street in the center of town just before 8 p.m.

The fire quickly went to three alarms with more than 40 firefighters responding in seven trucks and two engines.

Capt. Matt Housley of the Poudre Valley Fire Authority said the fire was doused by 9 p.m. The damage was contained to half the building because of a masonry fire wall bisecting the building. Housley said four apartments received fire and smoke damage and three received water damage.

Residents of nearby apartment buildings were allowed to return home this evening but the damaged building was declared off limits for the night, he said. The Red Cross is providing shelter to the displaced residents.

No cause has been determined and is under investigation.
