Robert Polk of Colorado Golf Club shot a 3-under-par 69 on Friday to win the CGA Senior Stroke Play Championship at Cornerstone Club in Montrose, becoming the first player since 2002 to sweep the major CGA tournaments in the same year.

Polk became just the fourth player to win both the CGA Senior Match Play and Senior Stroke Play titles, joining John Olive (1997, 2001 and 2002), John Golden (1993 and 1995) and Larry Eaton (1981 and 1985).

It was the fifth major CGA title for Polk since 2005, and his third Senior Stroke Play title.

Mays’ hat trick lifts Roadrunners.

Becca Mays scored three goals, leading the Metro State women’s soccer team to a 6-1 win over No. 20 Colorado Mines at Auraria Field.

The Roadrunners scored five goals in the second half, including two by Mays. In her first career game, Annie Austin added two goals for Metro State, and Madison McQuilliams scored on a penalty kick.

Van Lieshout powers DU over Kansas.

Katy Van Lieshout scored the game-winning goal to lead the University of Denver women’s soccer team over No. 13 Kansas 2-1 in the Colorado College Invitational at Stewart Field in Colorado Springs.

With the game tied at 1-1 with 5:44 left in the game, Van Lieshout hit a free kick to give the Jayhawks their first loss of the year.

The Pioneers conclude the Colorado College Invitational against Texas Christian on Sunday.

Buffs women’s soccer team edges Utes.

The University of Colorado women’s soccer team defeated Utah 2-1 in Boulder.

Kelly Ross scored the first goal of her career and Kym Lowry scored the game-winner for the Buffaloes, who improved to 4-2.

Hiwan head pro Heyen honored.

Kyle Heyen, a PGA head professional since 1985 at Hiwan Golf Club in Evergreen, became the first member of the Colorado PGA Section to be named the recipient of the 2009 PGA President’s Plaque for extraordinary and exemplary contributions in player development.
