CHARG-ing ahead

For two decades, CHARG Resource Center has been a lifeline for low-income adults doing their best to cope with mental illness so severe that it leaves them unable to work. Its services include a drop-in center, outreach programs and preventive dental care. On Sept. 9, Colorado first lady Jeannie Ritter and Mayor John Hickenlooper joined clients and supporters for a celebration of the center’s 20th anniversary, held at the Curtis Hotel. A saving grace

Helping children heal from lives filled with abuse and neglect is what the staff at Tennyson Center does best; an additional ray of sunshine is added each year when Frances Owens, LaFawn Biddle, Claudia Beauprez and Carol Moore help some of the teen girls there plan and serve an afternoon tea. Fifty supportive women, including first ladies Jeannie Ritter and Helen Thorpe, attended the 2009 edition of this confidence-building event. Photos courtesy of Tennyson Center
