Air Force coach Troy Calhoun faces uncertainty about the Falcons’ quarterback position heading into practice this week.
Calhoun’s focus will be on sophomore quarterback Tim Jefferson, who suffered a right ankle injury in the first quarter of the Falcons’ 37-13 victory at New Mexico on Saturday night.
Jefferson was unable to return. Sophomore Connor Dietz finished the game.
“We’ll have to see what he’s able to do in practice,” Calhoun said of Jefferson. “It could depend a lot on his pain threshold.”
Jefferson left the stadium with his right foot in a protective boot.
Calhoun more than likely will start the week with Dietz as his top quarterback, while Jefferson mends. The Air Force coach said his offense operates a little different with Dietz at the controls.
“Connor does a nice job at running the option part of our game,” Calhoun said. “Overall, when you coach at Air Force, you have to bend to fit your personnel.”
Calhoun said Jefferson, as well as defensive backs Chris Thomas and Luke Hyder, aren’t certain to play this week.
“With all of them, it could be three days or three weeks,” Calhoun said.
