Bridgework on Interstate 25 will shut down the highway tonight in Adams County.
All lanes, in both directions, will shut at 9 p.m. near 104th Avenue at the Thornton/Northglenn as girders are installed for a new bridge under construction.
All lanes are expected to reopen by 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
One lane in each direction will shut at 7 p.m., prior to the full closure.
Motorists will be detoured using on and off-ramps at 104th Avenue. In addition, the right lane of westbound 104th Avenue over I-25 will be closed from 8:30 p.m. Monday to 5:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Major delays are expected in the area, and alternate routes are “strongly” advised.
Work will continue Tuesday and Wednesday overnight, with two lanes in each direction being closed from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Southbound lanes will be affected on Tuesday night and northbound lanes on Wednesday, CDOT said.
The existing bridge over I-25 at 104th Avenue was built in 1962, the highway department said, and is one of the state’s “structurally deficient bridges.”
