NORMAN, Okla. — Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford attempted to go through quarterback drills with Oklahoma on Monday as he rehabs from a sprained right shoulder.
Offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson said after practice that Bradford “was doing more today than he’s done.”
Bradford has missed the past two games for the No. 10 Sooners after spraining the AC joint in his throwing shoulder just before halftime in the team’s season-opening loss to BYU. Coach Bob Stoops has said Bradford would be out two to four weeks, putting the time frame for his return at approximately the same time as Oklahoma’s next game, at ninth-ranked Miami on Oct. 3.
Bradford’s teammates said he went through team drills for the first time since he was hurt Sept. 5, but his participation was limited to short throws without requiring him to make a full follow-through.
• Boise State running back D.J. Harper, the team’s second-leading rusher, will likely miss the rest of the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
• Texas senior middle linebacker Jared Norton will have season-ending shoulder surgery.
• Michigan center David Molk needs surgery after breaking a bone in his foot and expects to be out four to six weeks.
• Texas A&M sophomore receiver Jeff Fuller will miss four to six weeks with a broken right fibula.
Team Renault avoids big hit
PARIS — Renault escaped severe punishment for ordering former driver Nelson Piquet Jr. to deliberately crash in a race, receiving only a suspended ban from Formula One.
The team would be permanently disqualified from the sport if it were to again break the FIA’s rules within the next two years.
Flavio Briatore, who quit as team principal last week, was banned indefinitely from any F1 activities. Engineering executive director Pat Symonds, who also left Renault last week, was banned for five years.
Piquet, who was given immunity by FIA, was ordered to crash at last year’s Singapore Grand Prix to help teammate Fernando Alonso win.
• NASCAR asked a federal judge to order a mental and physical examination on suspended driver Jeremy Mayfield to determine if he has a substance-abuse problem and/or attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder.
