BOULDER, Colo.—A Boulder woman whose brother is one of three U.S. hikers detained in Iran says the recent release of two U.S. journalists from North Korea gives her hope.
Shannon Bauer is the younger sister of 27-year-old Shane Bauer. He, Joshua Fattal and Sarah Shourd have been held for 52 days since apparently straying into Iran while hiking in northern Iraq.
Shannon Bauer says the hikers’ families haven’t received a response to a letter they sent to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, asking him to bring the hikers with him when he appears Wednesday at the U.N. General Assembly in New York.
She says the release of reporters Euna Lee and Laura Ling from North Korea this summer makes her hopeful for her brother’s release.
