Run, Broncos, run?

I’d be surprised.

I still think the Broncos’ game plan for the Raiders game Sunday will be heavy on Kyle Orton’s passes.

This may defy some logic, as the Raiders surrendered 173 yards rushing last week against a weak Chiefs team in Kansas City.

But look deeper at Kansas City’s rushing total. Take away scrambles by Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassell and an end-around and the Raiders allowed 123 yards rushing on 32 carries — a 3.8-yard average.

The previous week, the Raiders’ defense held the Chargers’ LaDainian Tomlinson and Darren Sproles to a combined 78 yards on 22 carries — a 3.5-yard average.

The Raiders are plenty stout against the run.

So far, the Broncos’ offense seems to be predicated on the short-passing game, which in turn sets up the run against nickel defenses.

If the Broncos’ spread alignment draws a fifth defensive back, then you might see some handoffs to Correll Buckhalter and Knowshon Moreno.

But straight mano a mano, base on base? Look for the Broncos to try and neutralize that big Raiders’ front four with quick passes.
