Denver police identified a home-robbery suspect who fled by stealing a van by force this morning.

Donald Oliver, 43, who was captured in Denver today, is being held for an investigation of aggravated robbery, police said.

Oliver also is being held on a warrant for escape from the Colorado Department of Corrections. Police said he left a local halfway house Sunday.

The incident started at about 10 a.m. today, when police were called to an attempted home robbery in the 900 block of South High Street, said Leslie Branch-Wise, a police spokeswoman.

Oliver ran away and then stole a van nearby by force, Branch-Wise said.

Police chased the vehicle, and in the 900 block of Corona Street, Oliver stopped the van and fled on foot. Officers caught him nearby a short time later.

No one was injured.

Police investigating this morning’s incident also found a car that had been stolen at about 2 p.m. Thursday in an armed robbery on South Gaylord Street, Branch-Wise said. The 1998 Subaru Legacy was recovered from the 900 block of South High Street, she said.

Investigators said they believe Oliver is involved in both cases.
