A man died tonight in a residential fire in Greeley, firefighters said.

Fire Marshal Dale Lyman of the Union Colony Fire Rescue in Greeley said that the fire broke out in a residence in the 1900 block of Fifth Street.

The fire was reported at about 8:50 p.m. and was contained a little after 9 p.m. Firefighters spent the next hour extinguishing hot spots, Lyman said.

Upon entering the single-family home, firefighters discovered the unidentified victim, Lyman said.

The victim was the only person at the residence during the fire. It is not known how many people reside at the address.

Union Colony Fire Rescue and the Greeley Police department are investigating the cause of the fire.
