The Gunnison Western Heritage Festival Oct. 3 includes a ranch rodeo with team events such as branding, trailer loading, sort and pen and doctoring; an expo about cattlewomen, stock growers, Ranchland Legacy, Western State College, 4-H and more; a petting zoo; a kids’ rodeo with stick-horse races, mutton bustin’ and dummy roping; and a chuck wagon-style barbecue. There will also be live music, cowboy poetry and a program on the history of the Gunnison Valley. All activities are free, except for competing in the ranch rodeo and eating at the chuck wagon-style barbecue. Tickets to the barbecue are limited; call 970-901-6215 to reserve your place. Events start at 10 a.m. at Jorgensen Park and the park’s covered ice rink. The rodeo will be at the Fred R. Field Western Heritage Center. 970-901-6215
