Kelly Menachof’s goal in the fifth minute held up as the University of Colorado women’s soccer team defeated Iowa State 1-0 on Sunday in Boulder. The Buffaloes remained undefeated in Big 12 Conference play.
Colorado (6-5-0, 3-0-0) has yet to allow a goal in league play. Goalkeeper Kara Linder earned a second consecutive shutout with one save.
On the game-winner, CU’s Erin Bricker moved down the outside past the Iowa State (4-3-4, 0-2) defense and gave Menachof a pass that she one-touched for a goal.
DU women’s soccer blasts Louisiana-Lafayette.
Freshman forward Kaitlin Bast scored a hat trick and midfielder Mariah Johnston added four assists as the Denver women’s soccer team topped visiting Louisiana-Lafayette 6-1 in a Sun Belt Conference game.
Bast has five goals and two assists in her past two games. Denver (7-3-1, 2-0-0) led 3-0 after Bast and Johnston hooked up for the third time in the 28th minute. Lafayette dropped to 0-9-1, 0-2-0.
Pioneers’ men’s soccer edges Fullerton.
Collin Audley converted a penalty kick in overtime to give the Denver men’s soccer team a 2-1 victory over host Cal State Fullerton in the Big West Challenge tournament.
The Pioneers (3-2-2) trailed 1-0 at halftime before freshman Alex Tarnoczi tied the game in the 55th minute with a shot from 18 yards out.
