Shortstop Troy Tulowitzki turned in a clutch play in the ninth, throwing out Skip Schumaker — although replays clearly showed that Schumaker was safe as he slid into first base. However, it was his two errors that were eating at Tulo after the game. “I just had a bad day defensively, no way around it,” he said. It was just the second time in Tulowitzki’s career that he made two errors in a game. The first was Aug. 6, 2007, against Milwaukee.
Triple time.
Catcher Yorvit Torrealba tripled off the base of the right-field wall to lead off the sixth. It was his first three-bagger since Aug. 28, 2007, at San Francisco.
El Hombre.
Cardinals slugger Albert Pujols continues to show why he has inherited Stan Musial’s crown as “the man” in St. Louis. Pujols hit a three-run double in the third, making him 10-for-16 (.625) with 34 RBIs with the bases full this season.
