A minivan was hit by a southbound train and burst into flames Sunday afternoon about 15 miles north of Pueblo, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
The van’s driver was killed, said Trooper David Hall.
The driver’s was identified as Donald Murphy, 68, of Colorado Springs. He was alone in the northbound van, and no one aboard the train was injured.
The van was struck by the Burlington Northern Santa Fe train about 3:15 p.m., just south of the El Paso County line.
The patrol says Murphy was crossing the tracks on a private road that had no stop sign or crossing gate.
