UNITED NATIONS — Cuba told the United Nations on Monday that the communist regime is ready to normalize relations with the U.S. and will work with Washington in the meantime on other issues such as fighting drug smuggling.

Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez told the U.N. General Assembly that Cuba had approached the American government with “a set of essential topics,” including the return of the territory occupied by the U.S. Naval Base at Guantanamo Bay.
