DENVER—Coloradans who venture across their northern border into Wyoming are sometimes derided as “Greenies” when their cars with green-and-white plates crowd roads to fishing streams and trailheads.
Now comes an exhibit by three Colorado institutions that says the beloved bucking horse-and-rider emblem on Wyoming’s own license plate was designed by, of all people, a Greenie.
The Colorado Historical Society, one of the three exhibit organizers, says the emblem was designed by Colorado illustrator and muralist Allen T. True in 1935. He was commissioned by Wyoming Secretary of State Lester Hunt.
The Wyoming secretary of state’s Web site confirms the story.
The Allen True exhibit opens Oct. 2 at the Denver Art Museum, the Denver Public Library and the Historical Society.
