Denver firefighters pulled a body from Cherry Creek today after it was spotted by a passer-by.
The incident happened just before noon near East Fifth Avenue and Grant Street, said Lt. Phil Champagne, a Denver Fire Department spokesman.
When firefighters arrived, including a water-rescue team, they found the body face-down in the water and pulled it out, Champagne said.
Champagne said the body is that of a man in his 50s.
“He appears to have been homeless or transient,” Champagne said. “It appears the body had been there for some time.”
Denver police are investigating the incident.
The area of the creek where the body was found is popular with walkers, runners and bikers. Today’s warm weather kept the path busy throughout the morning.
“People aren’t on the lookout for this type of thing,” Champagne said. “The irony of it, is he was found in about a foot of water.”
Champagne said people who notice something out of the ordinary should not hesitate to call 911.
