The Granite Ridge fire, which forced the evacuation of more than 100 homes Wednesday, is expected to burn itself out by Friday morning, said Kathy Messick, a spokeswoman for the Larimer County Sheriff’s office
The fire consumed about 200 acres of grass and brush Wednesday and Thursday, but did not burn any homes or other buildings, she said.
Investigators think the fire started when an electrical transformer exploded Wednesday afternoon, because of the high wind against power lines attached to it.
Crews will monitor the fires perimeter overnight, but they are no longer actively fighting the fire, which is between LaPorte and Livermore, 21 miles northwest of Fort Collins.
