The baby at the center of a suspected Lafayette child abuse case has died.

Boulder County District Attorney Stan Garnett said Jack Koller died late Monday, just shy of turning 5 months old.

Boulder County Coroner Tom Faure said an autopsy would be performed today, but that a cause of death could take some time to determine.

Garnett said his office would be looking carefully at the autopsy results to see if charges against the baby’s father, Benjamin Koller, need to be stepped up.

Koller, 26, is in jail, held on a charge of child abuse resulting in Jack Koller serious bodily injury. He was arrested in late July, shortly after he and his common-law wife brought their son to the hospital.
