Getting your player ready...

NORMAN, Okla. — Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford said Tuesday he plans to play against Baylor on Saturday, provided he has no medical setbacks during practices this week.

Bradford, last season’s Heisman Trophy winner, has been sidelined since he sprained the AC joint in his throwing shoulder in Oklahoma’s loss to BYU on Sept. 5.

“To get a game under my belt before Texas (Oct. 17) would definitely be beneficial for me and for our offense,” Bradford said.

But before Sooners fans rejoice at the prospect of Bradford riding in to salvage the season, some significant “ifs” remain.

Bradford intended to play last Saturday at Miami but felt soreness and fatigue in his arm as the week progressed. No one can rule out a repeat this week. Bradford also said surgery remains a possibility.

“From everything the doctors have said, it’s all a matter of how my arm reacts,” he said. “Until I get out there, until I practice, until I make all the throws, until I play in a game, then I’m not going to know — and no one’s going to know.”

• Florida quarterback Tim Tebow (concussion) returned to practice on a limited basis, though he has not been cleared to play in Saturday night’s game at LSU.

“He looked like Tim out there today,” coach Urban Meyer said. “Obviously practice is a lot different from what’s going to happen Saturday night.”

Meyer said Tebow’s status likely will not be determined until late in the week, maybe even Saturday.

• Nebraska running back Roy Helu Jr. is expected to play Thursday night against Missouri despite sitting out practice because of an undisclosed illness.

Sale of Cubs approved

CHICAGO — Major League Baseball owners unanimously approved the sale of the Chicago Cubs from the bankrupt Tribune Co. to the family of online brokerage billionaire and longtime fan Joe Ricketts.

The Ricketts, whose wealth comes primarily from its stake in Omaha-based TD Ameritrade Holding Corp., signed an agreement to buy a 95 percent stake in the team and in Wrigley Field. The $845 million deal also includes Tribune’s approximately 25 percent share of regional cable TV network Comcast SportsNet Chicago.

• Florida Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez will return in 2010, the team announced.
