Getting your player ready...

FORT COLLINS — Rashaun Greer has had a mild case of the drops this season, but the Colorado State wide receiver considers the slippery fingers more of a small issue than an alarming problem.

He plans on taking the one step he says he needs to correct it. That’s simply to concentrate more.

“I’ve just got to go back to the basics,” Greer said Wednesday. “I know on some (of the drops) it’s more so looking to run before I fully catch the ball. So basically, I’m just trying to go back to catching the ball completely before I look to get upfield.”

Greer, the Rams’ big-play senior wideout, still leads the team in catches (19), yards (403) and average per catch (21.2) for those with two or more receptions. Colorado State figures to need Greer to come up big against Utah on Saturday if the Rams are to break a two-game losing streak.

“Really, for Rashaun, if he has any aspirations to get looked at (by the NFL), they want to see what you do against good teams,” CSU coach Steve Fairchild said. “Beating these (defensive backs) is another thing.”

Asked if he was confident any problems catching the ball will soon be put in the past, Greer nodded.

“Definitely,” he said.

Day to day?

A number of players did not practice Wednesday, including linebacker Chris Gipson (shoulder), defensive lineman Eugene Daniels (knee), offensive lineman Mark Starr (concussion) and defensive tackle Ty Whittier (stinger).

Fairchild did not update the status of any for Saturday.

“I don’t know the status of Gipson or Starr or any of those guys,” Fairchild said. “But I do know we’ve been relatively healthy, and it’s part of the game, and we fully expect to come in and play as good or better with who’s replacing them.”
