More than 4.8 million passengers passed through Denver International Airport in August, making it the busiest August in the airport’s 14-year history.
The total of 4,877,212 travelers was a 2.3 percent increase over the 4,768,799 who used DIA during August 2008, airport officials said Wednesday.
It was the second straight month of growth after six months of decreased travel because of the economy and airline capacity cuts. “A record July followed by a record August is a very positive sign,” DIA aviation director Kim Day said.
For the first eight months of the year, passenger traffic was 34,324,108. That was down 2.8 percent from the 35,320,524 passengers recorded during the same period in 2008. DIA had a record 51.2 million passengers last year.
