A former Grand Junction police officer accused of sexually assaulting a woman has “died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” authorities said.
The body of Glenn Coyne, 35, was found yesterday afternoon at the Days Inn Hotel, 15059 W. Colfax Ave., according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
“The body was discovered by housekeeping during routine room service,” the sheriff’s office said in a media release.
Coyne, who had recently posted bond in Mesa County after being arrested Thursday on suspicion of first-degree sexual assault and first-degree burglary, was the lone occupant of the room, the sheriff’s office said.
A preliminary investigation into the death by Jefferson County authorities indicates Coyne died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Coyne, who had been a Grand Junction officer for two years, was fired after his arrest.
He was accused of assaulting a woman who called him for follow-up help after Coyne and other officers went to her Grand Junction home on an unspecified family matter.
