The Colorado Mammoth re-signed seven players for the 2010 season Thursday, including last season’s third-leading scorer, forward Jamie Shewchuk, who got a three-year deal.
Defenseman Matt Leveque and forward Andrew Potter signed two-year contracts. National Lacrosse League rookies Shawn Dhaliwal, Rocco Romero, Neil Tyacke and Matt Wilson also signed two-year deals.
“We’ll have some new, very outstanding talent on our squad this year,” Mammoth general manager Steve Govett said. “We’re excited about the size, strength and mix of guys coming into camp. They will be prepared to work hard and get the Mammoth back to the top of the NLL.”
Shewchuk, the Mammoth’s second-round draft pick in 2006, has 170 regular-season points in his four years with Colorado. Leveque is back for his fifth season. He had career highs with 12 games played and six points last season.
Potter was acquired from Rochester in 2008 in the Gary Gait trade. Dhaliwal was the Mammoth’s third- round selection in this year’s draft. Romero, a Denver native who played collegiately at Cornell, was a sixth- round pick. Tyacke is a 6-foot-3 goalie also taken in the sixth round after a trade. Wilson is fully recovered from knee injuries that kept him on the sidelines in 2008 and ’09.
The Mammoth’s home opener is Jan. 16 vs. Edmonton.
Rams still unbeaten in MWC.
