An Evergreen man who abused his girlfriend’s 2-year-old daughter so severely that she lost her sight was sentenced Friday to 22 years in prison.
Shane Michael Kendall, 28, initially gave Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies and doctors various stories about how the girl ended up bruised from head to toe, according to a news release from the Jefferson County district attorney.
He said she’d fallen down four stairs, fell in the bathtub, fell off the toilet and that they were horsing around and she hit a wall.
Kendall on Aug. 20 pleaded guilty to first-degree assault and child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury. The girl, now 3, has regained some sight but is still legally blind, said Pam Russell, district attorney spokeswoman.
