MONTROSE, Colo.—A man who pleaded guilty in the death of a drifter whose body was found near a landfill in Montrose County has been sentenced to 40 years in prison.
Twenty-seven-year-old Jeremy Hodges pleaded guilty in September to second-degree murder in the death of 50-year-old Steven Kublin. He repeatedly apologized at his sentencing hearing Friday.
Kublin died in 2006. Prosecutors say Kublin was hitchhiking when Hodges picked him up near Delta and invited him home. Prosecutors say that after Kublin went to bed, Hodges crept into his room, stabbed Kublin, then burned his remains near a landfill the next day.
Hodges’ attorney, Harvey Palefsky, said Hodges was psychotic when intoxicated.
Kublin’s brother, Ron, said he forgives Hodges.
