PUEBLO, Colo.—Uninsured Coloradans received free surgeries at the Pueblo Surgery Center for a second year with a program officials hope to expand nationally.

Center administrator Jennifer Arellano says 37 people who were approved for the procedures had surgery Saturday for hernias, gall bladder and minor knee problems, and other ailments. Arellano says the procedures would cost the center about $370,000.

About 60 people were screened three weeks ago to see whether they qualified for a free surgery.

The surgeries were completed with the help of 100 volunteers from the center, Colorado Technical University, International Surgical Missions and Health4 Haiti.

Arellano says the organization that oversees the Pueblo center, Surgical Care Affiliates, is considering expanding the project to other surgery centers in the country.
