A former Fort Carson soldier who has lived in Fountain with his family for the past 9 1/2 years died last week from wounds suffered in a Sept. 8 ambush in Afghanistan.
The Department of Defense said Sgt. 1st Class Kenneth W. Westbrook died Wednesday at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
He was deployed from Fort Riley, Kan.
