GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—Grand Junction prosecutors say they need more time to decide how to handle the case of a police officer who apparently committed suicide after being accused of sexual assault.

Mesa County District Attorney Pete Hautzinger has said he will close the case against 35-year-old Glenn Coyne after he receives his death certificate. Coyne was found dead last week in a Jefferson County hotel from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

A hearing on the case is set of Nov. 3.

Coyne was fired after being accused of assaulting a woman last month who called him for follow-up help after Coyne and other officers went to her house on a family matter.
