Investigators conducted a second in-depth interview Wednesday with Ricky Lee Harnish, a day after he formally admitted to raping and killing a 16-year-old girl in 1976.

Harnish, 54, faces 10 to 24 years in prison if he gives an “honest and truthful accounting of details” of the murder of Holly Andrews — the upshot of a last-minute plea deal that averted a trial scheduled to begin Friday.

Clear Creek County District Attorney Mark Hurlbert said Wednesday it would probably be next week before prosecutors could assess the truthfulness of Harnish’s account of the crime. The interviewing process was to be completed this week, but Hurlbert said he would probably ask for more time given the complexity of the nearly 33-year-old case. Kevin Vaughan, The Denver Post
