CAMPAIGN MONEY-NEBRASKA

OMAHA—With more than a year to go before the general election, Nebraska’s 2nd District congressional race is already on track to become a bank-buster. Democrat Tom White’s campaign says he raised more than $200,000 in the quarter that ended Sept. 30. He’s seeking the 2nd District nomination to run against Republican incumbent Lee Terry. By Margery A. Beck.

STATE BUDGETS-SAGGING STATES

BOSTON—A report by the Rockefeller Institute of Government showed second-quarter 2009 tax revenues in the 50 states dropped a record 16.6 percent, or $200 billion. Forty-nine states saw sales, personal income and corporate tax receipts fall as well. In Nebraska, net tax revenues fell $40 million short of official projections in September, and so far this fiscal year, they are 6.5 percent below projections. In response to the Nebraska problems, the governor has called a special legislative session, and legislators are expected to target agencies and services that are usually spared budget cuts.
