A man died Wednesday night after a two-car collision left him pinned under a vehicle at South Chambers Road and East Quincy in Aurora.
Five police officers lifted a rolled-over 1996 maroon Isuzu Trooper off the man after 8 p.m while bystanders pulled him from beneath it. The man died soon after at a local hospital, Aurora officials said.
Police found an unconscious female driver with apparent head injury to be the sole occupant of a 2004 black Ford Focus, which had come to rest on the sidewalk in the southwest corner of the intersection. The Denver woman was taken to a local hospital.
According to witness statements, the Focus was southbound on Chambers Road. At least one witness said the Focus ran a red light at East Hampden Avenue and South Chambers before striking and rolling the Trooper, which carried four people, police said in a press release.
Police said the collision ejected the right front-seat passenger from the Trooper, which then landed atop him. The Trooper was carrying four passengers, all from Wisconsin, police said. They were taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
Investigators said alcohol and the speed of the Focus are believed to be contributing factors. The road was shut down for about three hours.
