A wildland fire in Boulder County burned several acres near Eldorado Springs on Wednesday afternoon.
The fire started at about 1 p.m., and several local fire departments battled it amid gusty winds, said Cmdr. Rick Brough, a spokesman with the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office.
Fueled by the wind and dry grassland, the fire burned about 10 acres in 90 minutes, Brough said.
The fire was contained by 6 p.m., officials said.
It burned south of Gross Reservoir near Eldorado Canyon State Park.
Reagan Pufall, a photographer from Nebraska, was driving down the canyon after shooting pictures in the area and came across the fire, he said. A backhoe operator had clipped a transformer or power line, causing sparks that ignited the blaze, Pufall said.
“The driver of the machinery was trying to stomp it out,” Pufall said. “I tried to help put it out, but it was futile.”
Winds spread the fire quickly, Pufall said.
